My Not So Perfect Life - Sophie Kinsella || Review

Katie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed.

OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers.

But one day her dreams are bound to come true, aren’t they?

Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack. All Katie’s hopes are shattered. She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business.

Then Demeter and her family book in for a holiday, and Katie sees her chance. But should she get revenge on the woman who ruined her dreams - or try to get her job back? Does Demeter – the woman who has everything – actually have such an idyllic life herself? Maybe they have more in common than it seems.

And what’s wrong with not-so-perfect, anyway?

I had been after this read for such a long time after a lady at work told me all about it, having read (most of it anyway!) the shopoholic series and loving them it was always going to be a sure fire hit. I just couldn't justify buying another book on kindle at full price, luckily i managed to pick up the paper back pretty cheaply.

Katie Brenner has got the life she always dreamed of, all she had ever wanted was to work in London in design and be paid for it - and she has that! She has an instagram feed that even the best bloggers would be jealous of. However, it's not the case, Katie is putting on a front - she has one room, a long and awful commute and her job is just admin and she has no real chance to shine. If she keeps working hard though, surely it will pay off?

That is not the case, and when she gets sacked for what seems like the second time that day. Her dreams are shattered, how can she live in London on no job when she was barely living on the one she had. So, Katie returns home to her family farm - but things go from bad to worse when Demeter (her old boss) books herself in for a visit.

My not so perfect life was a wonderfully funny read, it really cheered me up. I thought it was going to be paced differently but that isn't a bad thing, in fact i felt it worked really well. It was almost  a before and after. I loved Katie as a character, she was real - she wanted everyone to see a certain image of her and the only way for her to do that was to change herself.

The rest of the cast of characters really worked well - Mick & Biddy were the most wonderfully written parents you could imagine, with real personailty to them that had me in stitches but also had my heart hurting with love for them as they tried to battle their own feelings on Katie growning up and moving on.

Demeter was Katies all consuming problem - so i fully backed her up as she battled with not having  a job and i was fully prepared to not like her. However what i did enjoy, was getting to know her alongside Katie. This was a real heart warming read but oh so relateable and thats why it worked so well. A sure fire hit for all chick lit lovers.
